Rather than looking at the addition only, the DGBK team performed a review of all building services and systems, municipal and building code requirements as well as user needs.  We looked at the overall planning, circulation and “feel” of the school.

DGBK made a case that the addition should not be located on the playing field, but dovetailed to fit into an existing school courtyard.  This allowed for better integration of the new classrooms within the school, improved circulation, and most importantly retention of the playing field.  The proposed design also opened up the centre of the school and gave the school a whole new feel.
