FRANCES KELSEY SENIOR SCHOOL
Located in the Cowichan Valley, on Vancouver Island, Frances Kelsey School is a unique facility where the design follows a specialized programme to maximize and complement the educational goals of a self-directed learning institution. The school features a variety of teaching spaces to accommodate small, middle and large group teaching; unique teacher preparation areas dispersed throughout the school; a student assessment centre, a publication centre, dispersed open student study spaces; and a refined approach to Industrial Education planning, which focuses on process and fabrication.
With Phase I completed in 1996, the school opened its doors to 800 students. Master planned for the eventual enrolment of 1200 students, the school’s academic success has led to it meeting its maximum enrolment mark and the final completion of the Phase II addition, adding a second gymnasium and additional teaching and study areas, in 2004.
