DGBK were invited to participate in the ideas generation process for the Shanghai bid for the World Exposition 2010. In preparing our site concept we drew upon the essential notion of the Expo as a “unique forum for encouraging human creativity and universal participation” and “an ideal forum for scientific exploration, and for incubating new concepts, ideas and innovative technologies.” All cities at different stages of development share the same challenge of the ‘city syndrome’, regardless of their differing social backgrounds or ideological persuasions. With Shanghai quickly moving in the direction of an international metropolis with a history dating back 700 years, it is ideally suited to host the fair, and was ultimately chosen to do so. We are proud to have contributed to Shanghai’s successful bid.
